Receipt data is processed on your device
Receipt text recognition and bill calculations run locally. The app does not send receipt photos, recognised text, payer names or bill amounts to TaHinny or to an online recognition service.
The current bill is saved in the app’s private storage so you can continue it. This can include selected receipt image copies, recognised text, item names, quantities, prices, payer names, shared-item allocations, charges, tips and your review decisions. Appearance settings are saved separately.
The app has no account system, advertising SDK or third-party analytics SDK. It does not track your activity across apps or websites.
You control access to photos and the camera
- Take a photo: camera permission is used to scan your receipt. You can choose existing images or enter a bill manually instead.
- Choose photos: Apple’s system picker passes the images you select to the app; the app does not browse your entire photo library.
- Import from Files: the app reads the image files you choose through the system picker.
- Save image: permission is requested to add your generated statement to Photos.
Once an image is available on the device, scanning and splitting do not need an app network connection. Photos or your chosen Files provider may need internet access to download an image stored in the cloud. You can change permissions in iOS or iPadOS Settings.
Keeping and deleting your data
The app keeps one current bill, with no account-based history or cross-device sync. Its receipt storage is marked as excluded from device backups. Export statements you want to keep; do not rely on another device or a backup to restore the current receipt.
Starting another bill replaces the current draft after your confirmation. Current receipt image copies are removed once that replacement saves successfully. Removing a photo also updates the draft before removing its local image copy. If storage fails, older data may be kept to protect your work.
If a saved bill cannot be opened, the app may preserve a local recovery copy before starting over. Generated export files may remain in temporary app storage until the system clears them. Starting a new bill does not erase every temporary or recovery file.
To remove all storage belonging to the app, delete the app using iOS or iPadOS Settings; offloading keeps app documents. This does not delete your original photos, files, clipboard content or statements already saved, shared or printed. Manage those separately in the destination app or service.
Apple services and beta testing
Apple’s system services and diagnostics are governed by your device settings and Apple’s policies. The app does not add its own analytics or crash-reporting service.
If you use a TestFlight beta, Apple collects beta usage and crash information and shares it with the developer. Feedback and screenshots you deliberately submit may also be shared. Check screenshots for private receipt or payer details before submitting them. Read Apple’s TestFlight privacy information.
This website and support enquiries
These native-app privacy and support pages do not load advertising, analytics scripts or third-party fonts. The web host may process ordinary request information, such as IP addresses and browser details, to deliver and protect the site. Other TaHinny pages have their own website privacy information.
If you email support, we receive your email address and the information you choose to send. We use it to respond and investigate your request, and retain correspondence only as needed for that purpose and necessary records. You can ask about or request deletion of support correspondence by email. Please avoid sending payment details or a full receipt when a short description will do.
TaHinny publishes Split The Bill Receipt Scanner. For privacy questions, contact admin@tahinny.com. We will update this page if the app’s data handling changes.
